The League

Organized in 1934, the non-profit South Carolina Credit Union League was established by credit union leaders who believed in the cooperative spirit and the common goal of credit union growth. Today, the League and its affiliates help credit unions improve products, service delivery, and employee education. The League is also a focal point of credit unions' collective political voice.

Community Involvement
Credit unions understand community spirit. A member has part ownership in a credit union. In return the credit union shares responsibility for its community. South Carolina's credit unions support many charitable causes including the Children's Miracle Network (Credit Unions For Kids), March of Dimes, the American Cancer Society, The United Way, Red Cross and more.

National Affiliations
Membership in the South Carolina Credit Union League affords credit unions a complete spectrum of services through the Credit Union National Association, (CUNA, Inc.) and its affiliates. CUNA, Inc. is the national instrument of credit union leagues and represents more than 90 percent of credit unions. CUNA Mutual Group markets insurance coverage and related services exclusively for credit unions.

Credit unions also sponsor and support the worldwide expansion of the credit union movement and its ideals. The World Council of Credit Unions is the vehicle for this expansion.

The National Credit Union Administration (NCUA), an independent federal agency, supervises and insures federal- and state-chartered credit unions. The NCUA is funded by credit unions and receives no tax dollars.

Related Associations
Credit unions in South Carolina are broken into five regional chapters, each an autonomous, political subdivision of the League. Chapter membership aids credit unions in advancing the purpose of the credit union movement in their areas.

The South Carolina Credit Union Management Association (SCCUMA) is a self-governing membership of credit union professionals. It exists to provide effective and continuous development in the field of credit union management through seminars designed with the professional in mind. Applications may be downloaded here.
